To be honest, I'm not sure if this is something that Verizon is asking, or if this is something Infosys (the implementation partner) wants to know... Either way, this is an inappropriate question to ask for your account creation/contractor data sheet. It's like asking, "Hey what's your race?" or "What's your father's name?" Irrelevant - this is not some national/top secret/government gig!!! I'm a US Citizen and that's all you need to know. I put down "North Korea" for kicks 😆
They ask because of certain vendors we work with and compliance check boxes
Can you elaborate on this? I didn't quite get the part about certain vendors and compliance? It's strange that there would be a compliance issue re where a person was born....
For example we have govt clients that require you to be a US born citizen due to confidentiality. Certain security compliance requirements
Country of origin is important, for example trade and export embargo. If you are from North Korea, china, Russia depending on the work access required, your job offer might be revoked. But usually having green card or citizenship is enough for them to justify the risk of hiring you.
There are also certain US government contracts that require a person to be a natural born US citizen, hence the need to know where you were born.
Putting down North Korea was probably a bad idea. There are some restrictions for US companies working on sensitive technology with nationals of countries deemed enemies of the state (North Korea, Iran, Syria…)
Verizon wouldn’t ask that, that would be infosys
They love to do that shit here in the states, is just racism. I have lived in different places and have never been asked my race ever , I’m white , I understand why would people of color feel annoyed about it .
Yep diversity and inclusion they claim but at the same time need to know what’s your blood type.
