I have a director level video interview for a finance role at a fintech company. Is it possible to be too dressed up? I am thinking of wearing a button up and jacket and possibly even wearing a tie.
I usually go shirtless. Makes them remember you.
If you have pierced nips, even better
Company name or GTFO
I wore a full suit to my virtual microsoft interview even though they said dress comfortable. Recruiter told me after that the interviewers “really liked the tie clip”. Signed my offer last week
If the company is based in Silicon Valley: button down shirt or button down + jacket. No more
This!
A nice sweater over a button up is the half step sweet spot I think.
Dress shirt and a sweater is fail proof
These days, everyone is wfh. If you're wearing overly formal attires, it screams weird and desperate
Ask HR what the expected dress is. While interviewing for certain roles I was specifically told not to wear too formal clothing
I wore a suit and tie for my director level video interview. I knew it was being recorded and that others would look at the recording. I got the job and since starting have been told "I was one of the reviewers of your interview recording and you took the process the most seriously by far."
What movie are you directing ?

If you know what the people who interview you typically wear try to dress at or one level up. Tie will likely be overkill unless they wear ties to work.
If they normally wear t-shirts, wear a polo or button down. If they wear polos, you can wear a button down or a jacket. If they wear button downs, wear a button down, jacket optional. Iff they were wear jackets or ties then you can wear a tie.
They have a casual dress code and looking through photos online it seems like most people wear jeans and a polo or button up. I think I’ll go with a button up and a jacket.
