Visa issues for postdoc
My friend is on h1b and doing a postdoc. He recently got an offer from google but it turns out he can’t transfer academic h1b to industry. What are his options now? He desnt have enough citations for EB1 green card.

O visa
Being a postdoc doesn’t mean he meets the requirements. But if he does, it’s a good visa to apply for since there is no cap on the amount the USCIS will issue.
Marry that friend
Get married to a U.S citizen to get GC EAD or work at oversea office for a year and come back L1

Assuming your friend can’t get OPT extension, they will have to wait for H1B lottery, or apply for O1 (if they have a good academic profile), or if Google allows for J-1 holders to work. The easiest option will be to work at a Google location outside the country for a year and then come back on L1 or H1-b
