So is WA just going down the path of having income tax line items called something else pulling out the most sympathetic characters possible? “‘Cos homeless” was the logic behind the passed then repealed business tax. I believe there is a .25% tax these days for family medical leave (?). Next up is a .5% tax for children’s hospitals or wounded puppies? https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/health/new-payroll-tax-is-pioneering-experiment-to-help-washington-state-seniors-age-at-home/
They will have to change the state constitution, which is unlikely to happen
They tried and failed this is why they are trying these workarounds with "paycheck surcharges"
Gotta pay the piper eventually. If not through an income tax, then through property taxes. That’s how Texas fleeces their citizens.
The way many elderly people are treated in the US is horrible. It sounds like this plan is just an excuse to cut state nursing home expenditures. Why find decent facilities that can improve life for elderly or chronically ill people when you can bribe poor rural folks with a couple hundred dollars to die quickly at home?
Public elderly care is part/parcel of the giant wealth transfer from the young to the old. No wonder so many millennials live in their parents’ basement.
Funny how people oppose taxing the rich because they think they might end up a multi-millionaire one day, contrary to all experience.... but then young people should oppose programs for the elderly when any surviving young person will certainly become elderly.
Sounds great
If you are a needle supplier or run a human feces cleanup company, then turning WA into CA must sound awesome.
If you want the government to waste even moar of your money, there are plenty of states you can move to.
