Looking to het latest updates on WLB at amazon. Is it still the corporate demon we were warned about few years back? Is it worth joining if you value WLB to some extent? YOE 3.5 TC 170K
Very team dependent. My team is chill, my friends in IoT are suffering.
Whats different about IoT?
Does a "chill" team still PIP people?
you know it’s all team dependent don’t you there’s no 1 answer
Yes, there are guys running 35 hr weeks doing cool stuff in AWS, and guys doing basically maintenance in retail pulling 60. Bad teams are like 40% out of all teams in my experience, and maybe half of those are truly awful.
So if somebody moves to Amazon first thing they need to do is try to find where good teams are to transfer just in case? Is it easy to find out?
My team in AWS is chill, for the most part. 40 hours a week, tops. Low ops. Sucks leading up to re:invent but that's only a short burst during the year, so it's not too bad really.
What team is this?
My team in Alexa is also chill. 35-40h weeks, couple of sev2 tickets when oncall. I’m actually a little bit disappointed because of all the war stories I read online about Amazon. I was expecting a high-pressure, high-growth environment.
Seattle?
Yep
My manager comes in at 10:00 and leaves at 430 taking an hour for lunch. It's chill. Everyone stays at the office tho cause they have no life out of work here in Seattle 😂😂
This is what I assumed. If it's gloomy and rainy and dark outside and far from friends and family not much reason to leave. Actually bill gates choose Seattle for that exact reason
Must be retail
