WTF are Indians at Cisco doing??

First of all, I'm an Indian engineer. Not an IT or a CS guy. Been working at Meraki for quite some time. Never worked in client vendor bullshIT world. Today after a women's in tech event(if I remember correctly), I overheard a white lady talking to another white person over drinks in Meraki kitchen area, probably sales guys, but not sure. She was complaining a lot about Indian guys at Cisco, where she used to work before coming to Cisco Meraki. She was talking about weird Indian culture, how second generation Indians are better, playing cricket in the park, so many Indians at Cisco... What did Cisco do to make this lady so repulsive to Indian immigrants. I've never been to Cisco. WTF is going on? I'm confused how to react to this. Just wanted to share...the ramblings of a loud and drunk lady.

I'm pretty sure Indians would bitch about it even more if a lot of Africans were to take over tech jobs in Bangalore.

Curious to see what Indians have to say about this

Facebook Tr3kkie Mar 7, 2018

It's true. Sadly it most likely wouldn't stop at bitching about it either.

Workday tidepod Mar 7, 2018

Did it ocur to you that she is just racist and ethnocentric and doesn't respect the fact that people from other cultures have their own norms she may not understand?

Definitely and she was loud too without any apprehensions. I haven't worked in Indian heavy companies so far in the last 10 years. Getting to see the other side of the coin. They talk about a melting pot but want more of a cheese fondue fountain.

Workday tidepod Mar 7, 2018

So she's unabashedly racsist... don't make excuses for her. And recognize your own biases which you've exposed by defending her

eBay cta+ Mar 7, 2018

I'm not indian nor do I work at cisco but I'm very familiar with racism. I don't think you can blame a culture for making a white woman unhappy. I bet, should she see the same experiences from say Germans she would have not complained because she wouldn't even give herself to objectify if she didn't see herself as superior. Racism is everywhere and there's not much you can do about it. Cultural norms can seem wierd and some can be revised but the blame should be on the white lady.

Hah....Ever been on the receiving side of racism? This was my first time at the work place and Nth time in real life as a brown guy in US.

Microsoft ThisOrThat Mar 7, 2018

So am I pal. It just reeks of BS. Women talking loud enough discriminatingly at an event. In an earshot of you without noticing you. Pure BS

Cisco 12monkeys Mar 7, 2018

She doesn't like Indian dick. It's her prerogative. Move on.

Cisco YAIK76 Mar 7, 2018

That’s your “helpful” answer? Or maybe your lame attempt at being witty? Neither worked. What’s worse...you are my colleague at Cisco 🤮.

Cisco Yoko Mar 7, 2018

He's probably right though. Looks like she doesn't find Indian men attractive and is bothered by their advances.

Facebook D.K.Bose Mar 7, 2018

People expose their vulnerabilities when they are drunk. She must have been feeling insecure and wanted to talk about something that made her feel superior. I'd like to debate the lady 1:1

Amazon foobarrrrr Mar 7, 2018

Cisco is an Indian company. My former coworker boasted how his fat wife ("his words") loves the government job.

Amazon 123raj Mar 8, 2018

I bet his "fat wife" got more action than him 😂

SAP HkVX62 Mar 7, 2018

You should post this story to LinkedIn. Here are some opening lines "I once hired an Indian. Nobody wanted to hire him. They said he smells and plays cricket, will not fit our culture..." You get the drift

I wish there was an anonymous post option on LinkedIn. But that will open the floodgates of random shit that people post.

Microsoft wisz46 Mar 8, 2018

This story sounds a bit extreme but I can easily believe it. I worked at Cisco for years and, as a non-Indian, I felt uncomfortably out of place a lot. Some people are flat out racist and some people can fit in with anyone at any time regardless of circumstances, but I think most people are somewhere in the middle (whether they want acknowledge it or not) and feel slowly worn down over time when they have no choice but to be surrounded by people of another culture.
