I got interview from ABK as Staff Engineer Location - SF or NYC TC - 140k How is this org doing in case of revenue and work. Also will this org be wiped off once MS takes over as MS already bought Xandr and other Ad agencies while ago so no reason for them to keep this media company active. Any thoughts from peeps working in ABK esp Media division. Does ABK Media has good wlb with such low TC and no RSU? #Microsoft #Activision #Blizzard #king
Very typical of the gaming industry, but peanuts compared to staff role in tech (outside games). 140k is more like high entry level elsewhere. The big game studios count on an endless supply of thirsty starstruck gamers who burn out after a few years of crunch, being underpaid, and usually (certainly in the case of Activision) a very toxic culture. You'll be in one of two cities with VERY high cost of living and will not be able to save much or keep a nice lifestyle. If you're a die hard game dev who wants to see how the big boys make games before branching off on your own or something, sure, jump in for a few years. Just realize this is a very bad offer anywhere else.
Thanks for detail response. I am not into game development tbh. I just think after merger with MS I can put my LinkedIn as MS employee and hoping to get MS stocks. Second reason was that working with Ad revenue media company exp will help me to later get into Netflix games/ Meta or Google where they also hv prjs working on Ad revenue generations. Did you work in Activision and felt the wlb toxic or you just assuming based on what u heard around
