It’s broken because we convince ourselves that government is bad and only private industry can do anything and, somehow, publicly traded, profit driven corporations mixed with inelastic demand will somehow lead to quality outcomes for the consumer.

A lot of people make a lot of money from healthcare being broken and those at the top use some of their money on political influence to ensure the system stays broken and profitable (for them).
