Hi Blind, Would much appreciate your thoughts on comparing Walmart Snr software l4 to Instacart l3. EDIT: from everyone’s support here, I am inclining more towards Instacart. Does anyone happen to know if Instacart comp is competitive for 1.5 yoe post masters. Also does L3 justify or should I be getting L4? For Walmart, it is an internal transfer for me so no negotiation room. For Instacart, this is after 1 round of negotiations. Other than TC, I am worried about high cost of living in SF coz spending time in commute is not an option. There can be a huge upside with Instacart stocks but in hand but will have to wait it. Walmart TC: 146k base 20% EOY bonus ~ 29k every year 40k stocks/4 Stock refresher of 40k every year/4 Instacart TC: 155k base Performance based bonus 500k stocks/4 at valuation of 17.7B (Stocks are on double trigger: can liquidate only after acquisition or ipo) Stock refreshers after 2 yrs Current TC Walmart L3: 132k base 16% bonus Yoe: 2.5, 1.5 yr post graduation Thanks for your help in advance 🙏 #Instacart #Walmart #FANG #tech
Would appreciate if you can leave the reasoning for your votes! That would help a lot
Could you share your yoe?
Updated! Any thoughts?
Instacart for sure. Walmart isn’t a strong name for your resume anyways and the comp is way lower with no upside compared to Instacart.
Makes sense! Do you happen to know if 1.5 years after master get L3 or L4 at Instacart? I feel new grads get L3 too but not sure if my comp compensates for it
Recently moved to Instacart. I think the potential is huge, I would try to get in before the IPO. There isn’t any performance based bonus though?
Could you share your offer?
Yes my recruiter mentioned there are performance based base hikes... but still unclear on that
Walmart L4s get about 160k to 170k base 45k/4 20% bonus See if u can negotiate some more if ur looking for instant cash However, instacart has got huge potential too.
Thanks for sharing, I don’t think I can negotiate Walmart offer. I can try Instacart though... does anyone happen to know if my base is low balled for insta.. considering no bonuses?
Stock refreshers work a bit different than what you might think at Instacart: they don’t stack. So while you get a refresher on year 2, it only vests from year 4 to 6. That said, the stock make Instacart more attractive IMO. But I’d also take in consideration how much you want to live in SF as it’s pretty expensive.
Thanks for sharing this, I asked my recruiter about the stock refresher cliff and he mentioned it to be 1 yr... although nothing regarding workings of stock is mentioned in the offer letter. Everything will come through after I join in a month or so
Will you have to relocate? Or did they say it will be remote
Your WMT base is too low, you are destined to be lowballed for rest your your wmt stint. Take instacart offer, your are not so old that you can’t afford mistakes in your career. Congrats on instacart offer.
Thanks for sharing this, i was sure external hires were paid more! This solidified
Yeah I'm L3 at walmart and my base is 142k
Walmart stock should be $160k/4 to be comparable.
Nope. If OP has completed 4 years already: Then yet the maximum he will get is 160K by end of 4 years in RSUs but these are not guaranteed as per new pay structure, ideally he will get only 160K by 4 years in this condition if he delivers exceeds expectations rating or at mercy of his manager that RSUs will not be capped below 40K. If OP has recently joined WMT then End of 1st yr: 10K ...2nd...: 20K ...3rd...: 30K ...4rd...: 40K Total maximum if manager did not cap his RSUs in any year= 100K which is too low compared to any other employers.
Yep! Max that I am gambling is 100k over 4 yrs vs 500k over 4 yrs

Why are Walmart’s RSU packages so lame. They give $60K/4 for a senior PM role
Just not a strong part of their comp strategy I guess
But they don’t make up for it in base or bonus. Walmart has massive scale and interesting products but with that comp structure it’s a tier 3 company to work for IMO
