Hi, I work with Uber and considering applying to Walmart Ecommerce. Any thoughts or ideas on whats their business outlook and whether they have resiliency during recession. My primary goal is to go to a stable company and avoid any potential future layoffs. There are rumors that Uber is considering layoffs and considering its previous layoff history, I find that highly likely. I am on a visa so want to prioritize stability at all costs. I am considering Walmart because i have a strong referral there who can connect me to hiring manager. 5 YOE, 220K
You will have a WLB, my friends at Walmart e-commerce are out shopping, running errands all the time during weekday afternoons
^ this.
How credible are the rumors? Walmart is not good for career progression, imo.
Pretty credible. I know enough ppl in finance and have seen past layoffs at Uber to know what's going on. My guess is layoffs in 3-4 months. That's just enough time for me to find a job and let the visa transfer go through
Personally, I can disagree. But it’s all about making your direct manager look good.
How much does Walmart pay?
Don’t take it for granted, especially the retailers segment which gets the direct blow if consumers starts spending less. Walmart has proved all recession, and I pandemic safe tags given to it were dead wrong. WMT stock is still overvalued after so much of drop and outlooks are not good. There is a huge pressure to cut the cost so anything can happen. Also it is not true that Walmart had no layoff, we have seen layoff in 2020 where whole org was laid off. Don’t take anything granted in retailers.
Hey, can I DM for a DS referral at Walmart? I got a couple of DS offers so should be able to clear interviews.
Bro that set of layoffs in 2020 was because of a leadership change. They gave 6 month severance to everyone. It probably cost walmart a lot more. Point is walmart is a stupid cash cow and there is no focus on cost as far as ecomm is concerned. They keep pinching pennies with the stores business

Does the market believe in Sundar Pichai?
Fyi Walmart e-commerce is still burning money. Walmart stores are the ones making money though.
If you didn't know they're are both under the same umbrella. Doesn't matter
