Walmart vs StubHub

Have an offer from StubHub for $285K base and RSUs each year for 4 years for a senior role. It is a hybrid 3 days on-site 2 remote role based out of NYC. My current comp at Walmart is $130K base, $12.5K stock and a $21.3K bonus at EOY as a SWE III. I’m up for a promotion to SWE IV in Oct which would bump my comp to about $150K base, $30K stock and $30 EOY bonus. WMT roles are fully remote for the time being. I’ve read a lot of negative stuff about SH pre-buyback but can’t help but feel that it is a great offer with the opportunity of working on a company thats looking to reinvent itself. SH seems to be hiring a lot of folks from known companies such as Amazon, Google and MS which could be a good thing (experienced technical driven people) or bad (ego clashing, directionless technical projects). To make the financial decision I’m basically valuing the RSUs at 0 from SH and excluding the stock award from WMT; the first year I’d come ahead $550 per week assuming I were to get promoted to SWE IV at WMT and the following year I’d be $800 ahead, the previous numbers would be by living in NYC as I’d be relocating from to NY/NJ. Should I stay at WMT? the comp at SWE IV is good yet I feel like I can do better given my experience and skills, 12 years mostly mobile and backend. Would you stay at WMT if they matched TC to base with a retention bonus even if its for a year? I’m a bit wary of SH’s negative reputation but all seems to be from previous leadership and managers. The people I met were actually good and I even had the chance to talk to the CTO, and he was honestly very professional and easy to talk to. The other thing I’m wary of is that I feel that its a lotta money, which would make me an easy target for layoffs and not sure how easy it’d be to find similar comp companies in the NY area in case of the worst. What do you guys think? #walmart #stubhub #swe

It’s a really strong offer, no reason not to take it

How is this even a question?

StubHub is private, so not sure about the actual value of the RSU.

Walmart Wmt007 OP Aug 14, 2022

Yeah thats why I’m valuing them at 0 essentially.

$155k base change? Congrats and take the job. I generally advise against a counter but remote and wmt matching would be compelling. Also, no chance they match the full offer.

285k base ? I'd die for that

Join and if it sucks then leave after a year? I read that stubhub planned to go public so maybe you will see the real rsu value in the next year or so. The only issue is with the current market being bad, if you hate it there it may be difficult to move again
