I want to move to Seattle (or redmond, Bellevue, general vicinity). I'm currently in the east coast and am starting job search. Will my current location be a negative in resume screening? I was told that I should either not list my current address or say "relocating to Seattle". I don't want to lie and get in trouble but I heard I have lower chances if out of state. I have about 2.5 year of experience. Should I focus more on Leetcode or domain specific knowledge? I'm not aiming for Google though, really anything. I read that the interview process at Microsoft has changed but judging from the post I read here is still seems like the typical 4 rounds of LC style questions, is that true? Thanks guys! #jobopening #seattle #microsoft #softwareengineer
Is it always gloomy over there, i kinda like that weather.
I also love gloomy weather, but dealing with not a single day of sunshine (or even partly cloudy) for six months can really wear you down. That being said, Seattle has the most spectacular summer weather, not too hot and not at all humid, but sunny and warm. Plus lots of nature to escape to in every direction.
OP, you are all over the place. 😀 If you are able to pass Leetcode-style interviews, no one is going to care about your address. Interviews are not easier at Microsoft than Google, by the way. At Microsoft it will totally depend on the team where you're interviewing. (A lot of folks I personally know passed "standard" Leetcode-like interviews at Google and Facebook but couldn't clear Microsoft because the interviewers asked for specific knowledge of multi-threading, locking, distributed systems, etc.) Life in Seattle is quite different from the East coast. Hard to suggest anything without specific questions from you.
Haha I am a bit of a mess. I'm sure my address won't mean much if I do good in actual interviews. I was more worried about being dismissed in the resume screening phase in case companies filter by location or something like that. But I guess if I have a good resume that shouldnt matter. And I totally didn't mean to say that Microsoft is easier. Im just more interested in working there than in FB or Google. Thank you for the response!
I lived in Seattle area for 15 years and it was depressing. The weather just sucks the life out of you. There is a reason why the PNW has the highest suicide rate.
Don’t spit unsubstantiated rumors. WA doesn’t even rank in the top 20 with suicide rate. Info - https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/pressroom/sosmap/suicide-mortality/suicide.htm
http://depts.washington.edu/hiprc/suicide/stats/ Pacific Northwest is the highest when all combined. Seattle is 2nd in largest metropolitan areas. Maybe not as a whole for Washington but Seattle king County suicide rate is bad. It’s super depressing there
