#waymo #google I received a Waymo offer, and wanted the community's opinion of how good an offer it is: Total experience: 4.5 years software engineer Google current TC: L4, $156K salary, 15% annual bonus, $187k unvested RSUs Waymo offer L4, $156K salary, 15% annual bonus, keep and continue to vest the $187k RSUs in GOOG, $128k Waymo RSUs over four years (1 year cliff) There are many discussions already about how Waymo is opaque with equity. That hasn't changed. The only information I have is that the Waymo RSUs are "valued" at $11 per share and that the only external finding round was $2B. I have a competing offer coming from Figma. And I can stay at Google of course (but there's almost no advantage to get to L5 quicker because my team is turning down).
Did you hear about RSU price from Waymo, or making assumptions? If the latter, you are likely going to be dissappointed.
Nope. Going to ask that in my clarifications but I expect them to just give the $11 number.
If you really want to work on self-driving vehicles, pretty much every single company in this field pays much higher than Waymo (Cruise, Aurora, Zoox, even Uber ATG...). I understand however that most are far behind in terms of delivering on an L4 autonomous vehicle.
I really like working at Waymo! I think there's less risk in Waymo equity than in equity of any (privately owned) competitor. Worth keeping in mind.
That's true for private companies , but there are public companies in this space: Uber ATG, Lyft L5, Tesla, Apple.
I took the offer, and was able to negotiate an increase in my WMUs from $128k to $150k, so don't believe everything you hear about negotiating with Waymo. Very excited for the opportunity. And for you blinders only interested in TC, that would be 261K first year TC.
Nice, I should have tried to negotiate. I ended up with $124K WMU at the same level.
How is the work? How is management? Is IPO a goal?
How many interviews did you have?
2
How long did they get back to you after the interview? Thanks!
Could you negotiate a signon? What if you had a FB E5 offer and we're L4 at G would waymo have given you a level up?
Is it easy to switch from google to waymo or other subsidiaries?

Don’t go Waymo. Level 5 self driving is at best 10 years away. Private valuations were also set at a time when markets were frothy, so you need to add a huge discount factor for Waymo and Figma and they will not adjust your offer to meet. IMHO go out and get a public company offer while the market sucks. Your TC will thank you in a year.
Here's the issue: the best public company is the one I'm already at. I don't want to join any other FAANG for location or just obvious reasons (I'm based in SF). I attempted to interview with Lyft but they're not hiring right now for obvious reasons. I'm trying to pivot my career into an area more interesting to me: transportation/design.
^ looks like your SJW outlook is costing you money and career growth. Good.
