Folks, please dont take me a wrong way. I sympathize with those are impacted by the layoffs. My point here is we / news outlet / pretty much everywhere are focusing too much on the worst. This is the end of tech industry, tech is doomed, wages cut coming, blah blah blah. But looking at this chart, number of layoffs is nothing compared to number of hiring in the past 2 years. Ok? edit 1: lots of you commenting about amazon including warehouse workers. answer definitely yes, but thats not the point. Even you removed all the warehouse workers, amzn still hiring lots lots of corporate/tech. anecdoctely, i saw many cases, teams got extra hc for no reason.
This can also be viewed as how much more is remaining for layoff š.

Also should consider how many ppl left jobs during that time in these companies
Man Amazon š³
Per your rationale, stocks are back to pre-pandemic prices. Should payroll size follow?
Google and meta hired way more than Microsoft in the last 1 year. Iām really curious on the timeline on when the hiring was done in big numbers.
BS data. That huge number for Amazon includes seasonal/warehouse workers. If you really want to compare Amazon with all these other companies, get the corporate headcount only.
So when am I getting fired?
I guess main problem people have with layoffs is how it's being executed. Not much transparency.

Do people underestimate E6 role at meta?
Is that seasonal warehouse workers and delivery drivers you are counting? I think those were cut way earlier and way more than 18k were cut.
For Amazon yes, it has to be.
regardless, if we took away those seasonal worker, Anecdoctely, AMZN still hired more than those got laid off.
