Lets be real here, a good TPM is a rarity. I will say that probably 99% TPM roles in the industry are simply email pushers, report generators and sprint meeting conductors. They can be replaced via good iterative LLM workflows. At Amazon, TPMs eventually become SDMs which leads to lowering of the engineering bar. TPM role could be abolished if every SDE had perfect discipline in reporting, prioritizing, etc. But we know this is not the case. Even if you could replace a human TPM with AI, would anyone pay attention to the AI, or would it just become background noise? The TPM role should be paid much less and no way should we have TPM -> SDM, that much I agree with.
