How concerned should the gaming community be? Tencent has a stake in nesrly every major publisher which created Fortnite, LoL, PUBG... headlines are obsessed with TikTok but Tencent is the real story here. Wonder how theyll retaliate
Force them to divest. That's what CIFUS is for.
Should Apple divest it’s China business and operations as well?
If CCP wants to, yes. That's what Google and FB had to do. The only reason CCP does not dare to do it to Apple so far is because then production will be gone and 500k employees will get very mad and that's a lot of social unrest to deal with. Notice how Appke was the obvious target when the ban on Huawei started but CCP did not dare.
Trump doesn't care about the game industry. It's not "big" enough in his mind. I don't know if he'll have a reason to ban all of Tencent if he's already banned the biggest part they own (wechat)
Gaming is the main revenue for Tencent, not Wechat. Mostly domestic revenue though.
Yes but you can argue that wechat is more influential. Wechat has access to personal information, and wechat has also built their own financial ecosystem. You can go to stores and see places that accepted wechat pay. Whereas I don't think the government considers games as security risks yet. Just my speculation though, you never know what this administration will do.
台湾第一
Honestly after WeChat and TikTok are banned, CCP will have to impose income tax on overseas Chinese. All overseas Chinese should pay 40% income tax to CCP to show their support.
This. All the little pink should show your real support to your beloved ccp.
China's foreign Income taxes should be retroactively applied for the past 10 years as well. It is not only applying forward from now, but also need to chase back the missing filings in prior years.
Great news
It is so awesome that nobody talks about freedom anymore, so interesting
Seriously...trumpism is in all of us now, whether we hate the man or not.
We all know "freedom" is just an excuse to bomb other countries. When it doesn't play straight out anymore why would we bother calling it out?
It's bigger than what we think- it's an ideological war, Communism with Chinese characteristics vs Democracy as practiced in Murica
I think it's the right decision IMHO! I believe it's very difficult for any American/European country to do business with full freedom in China too! Why shouldnt China reap what it sows? I personally think it is a huge country and the way it has been suppressing it's citizens and other neighboring Asian countries (Himalayan border dispute, south China Sea dispute) is just sad!
Bans transactions with tencent, not banning the App right? The later only hurt Chinese people in the US, I don’t know any non Chinese uses WeChat
Like Microsoft buying TikTok, Microsoft can again buy WeChat.🤣
WeChat is not the same as TikTok... Go make a 7nm chip
FB more likely to buy tencent
