I've done some research and now need blinds help. I'm a business system analyst, w 2 YoE in the role (TC 94k). Prior to that, 2 years of business roles in operations/supply chain working mostly on tech-related projects. I'd count that a total of 4 YoE. MBA degree and business undergrad. Have learned a ton on my own, building a wordpress site and MEAN stack app on AWS. Casual leetcoding and grokking the system design thing. I'm really interested in technical problem solving and would like to join a tech company. Ideally I'd like to make more money, but also willing to take the same pay to get domain knowledge. Which of these options would be realistic for me, and which would I enjoy? Are any of my assumptions wrong? 1) a BSA role. The best fit for my current skill set. I see it as more of the same. Best case is slightly more technical than my current role, at roughly the same pay. 2) TAM. On paper, the role sounds amazing. Diving into technical issues and being the interface with the customer, learning their business. I think personality and willingness to learn suit me well and I would love this role, but fear I am not yet technically competent enough. 3) customer success. If TAM is 75% technical, then customer success is 75% business. Skill set is a strong match (in my opinion) but would tire of 1. delivering the same training countless times and 2. Potential sales focus. Been thinking of this as a first choice based on my qualifications but would I like it? 4) front line support - maybe a Support Engineer role would build my technical chops, but not sure I could get 110k for this. What strategy would you guys and girls recommend? TIA
If you take any shitty job like qa or support it'll stain your resume forever
Thank you, noted
Shoot straight for software engineer. A good resume and referrals should get you the interview. Sounds like you practice enough to pass
Thanks for that, it's very encouraging. With a bit (a lot) more practice maybe I will go for an SE role.
Depending on where you apply, it sounds like youre already qualified. At fortune 500s its mostly behavioral. No need to wait!
