If it comes to the point where they are contemplating bankruptcy Amazon may bail them out.
At some point Rivian could be bought by any of the mainstream auto makers
Key word(s) is 'at some point'. Currently they have about 60% of Ford's mkt cap.
Why?
Why ?
Amazon absorbs a new company every week, why do you think Rivian is an exception?
Because Amazon doesn’t have the appetite for the complexity involved with building their own vehicle? Same reason they didn’t start the program in house.
Not worth it for Amazon. Amazon doesn't manufacture anything. Manufacturing is expensive.
They have their own product lines though (AmazonBasics and Kindle).
Amazon is too smart to invest in a money pit.
They already invested in it though.
OP - curious to understand your thought process behind this statement
The company culture being very very similar in terms of leadership values, Rivian building a custom edv in rpd, and Amazon having a decent stake in the stock makes me want to think Amazon would possibly want to merge this with Zoox. Amazon is known for buying companies that either are their competitors or have a great relationship with. I am not saying it would be bad. But in case Rivian goes down, Amazon has the money and right reasons to swoop in. The partnership would just turn into a marriage.
Amazon is already an investor. Why will they buy it.
