What are typical finance interviews like?
I'm currently not in a finance role but want to get an idea as to what interviews are like for finance positions? Is it just behaviors questions or do companies have problem solving components. I know that for recent graduates there are case interviews, but is this the case for experienced hires too? Would love to hear some interview questions that people have received for their current position.
I can only answer for FP&A roles. Most the time just behavior / specific questions on how you utilized finance practices in the past to create value etc. A couple of places sent over an “excel test” where they wanted you to forecast and analyze what was going on with the test data; nothing too complicated though. Like with most non-technical positions, it’s really about how you can demonstrate what you’ve done in the past that directly aligns with the position qualifications that is important.

Typically, they ask you questions and then choose not to hire you
For technical questions, leetcode medium difficulty questions. Good software methodologies, SOLID principles, some design patterns, testing etc...obviously different companies/roles focus on different things
In Asset Management, you'll be required to demonstrate how your experience can add value to the role. This means behavioral questions as well as questions on your field of expertise. AM is also requires relationship-building skills so that wil be a focus at least partly. Lastly, you're likely to be interviewed by double digit number of people to determine if you would be a good fit.
Boiler plate standard history questions for the preliminary round after HR; for senior roles expect multiple rounds of interviews over two months with one or more employees at each, including 2-3 with the hiring manager. We do not ask bullshit or trick questions, or test. Your skill set will come out during the discussions.

And how technical do they get? Is there like a portfolio analysis round or something ever?
