Women, help me understand why this is inspirational
My manager just talks about work tasks to be done. It's more like a weekly status update meeting. Should one ideally talk about rating expectations, feedback and gaps all the time, especially with the new PIP systems in place everywhere ?
They won’t have feedback or gaps for you every week, but you should get pretty consistent feedback. If you’re not getting that either 1) you’re at the next level and they’re just waiting for a promo cycle (you’d know if this was the case) 2) they’re not good managers (most likely) 3) you’re not close to promo and they think getting you there will take a lot of investment, which they aren’t interested in making at this time
Mmmua’s book suggestion is great. Purchasing this for them may be construed as an insult. Proceed with caution. To be proactive, read the role guideline for your job and level, identify an area where you think you excel and two where you think you need to grow. Write these down with examples. In a one on one, ask if they can review it with you and share their thoughts. If they agree with you, ask how they can help you strengthen your weak areas. Gently but persistently prompt them to give you detailed feedback and examples, and to explain what they would do to strengthen this attribute. Then KEEP DISCUSSING HOW YOURE WORKING ON IT. Continue to ask for reflective feedback. If this is a one-off convo you’ve failed to manage up.
just talk about anything but work. Chit chat, talk sht, spread rumors. Complain about things your manager has no idea about so it makes you look smart
