Thank you AAPL and NVDA
Layoffs are concerning and people are having restless nights. It might not be you today but it might impact you in 6 months. Everyone says conserve cash with recession looming but how? What tactics have worked for you which are practical and doesn’t require going overboard? Things like cutting down on Starbucks runs or streaming services seem insignificant. What are tangible ways that does not deprive us from basic pleasures in life? Share what you have done or are planning to implement soon? Keep it real. #layoffs #recession
If saving is not a possibility, you need to find a way to make some side cash. Could take on a part time gig like Door Dash, seasonal retail, etc. Could Airbnb a spare bedroom, take on roommates. You’ll be trading off some short term discomfort for peace of mind.
How much can you actually make from door dash, Uber eats? Taking into account fuel costs, it seems like marginal returns at best?
Probably partially depends on whether you are driving in HCOL or LCOL area.
albersons 🥺🥺🥺, can i please have referall (fr)
Did you get a support check in?
not yet netflix, but my manager is pinging me to do random tasks every day now. plus we probably got layoffs coming 😔
Taking a look at your budget and seeing where you can save. It could be spending less on eating out, subscription services you don’t use, shopping, etc. I know I spend too much so I just need to tighten it up a bit and I’ll be able to save a couple hundred a month.
Thinking about cancelling Model Y order. Current car is from 2008 but still runs
I did cancel my Q7. That decision was easy.
We did cancel ours too. Better to not have that ~65K stuck in a depreciating asset.
Shopping at Aldi instead of Albertsons
That’s a good one
If you chart your expenses/savings per month you will know how much runway you have. It will also highlight what you spend most on. Looking at last 6 months credit card and checking account statement and adding it to a sheet would be a good start. A few things I can think of - 1. Not starting/renewing your lease. Going month to month. 2. Not making any big purchases. 3. 1-2K max vacations are ok. Anything above that needs a hard look. 4. See what are your big ticket items every month from above sheet and see how they can be reduced. 5. Please be mindful when buying gifts for Christmas. You can always pool this years money towards next years gifts. 6. If you know someone is struggling financially and you were buying a gift for them, better give them a gift card of costco/target vs a fancy item.
Very thoughtful and practical suggestions. I really like #4. Knowing is half the battle.
Cut silly trips, doing side gigs on weekend, optimizing for efficiency instead of luxury, replacing luxury cars with low cost cars, meal prep & Costco instead of DoorDash (yes it adds up)...
Doordash is like crack in the 80’s for me.
So true with door dash.
