Changed the title. Updated: Just got informed that I will have an offer. Interviewed for L6 AS at Seattle. Two questions: 1. What is the probability of getting L6 or down-leveled? Half/half? 2. If L6, what to expect for comp? —————— YOE 6 years. Just finished the onsite. Just feeling OK. But in the entire process no one is mentioning the expected lvl. How to be considered for L6? Should I ask the recruiter to?
Amazon is generally terrible with this. I asked 3 times initially in the process to confirm it's L6, and the final offer was L5, even though I wasn't down-leveled, the recruiter claims.
I was clearly told the interview performance would dictate my level. Ultimately it was an L6 position. 10 YoE.
6 YOE is in general short for L6, but there are exceptions.
Is this SDE? 6 YOE is typically L5 unless you had rockstar experiences and rockstar interview. Also yes confirm before interview.
Candidates get tagged to a specific job opening, and that job opening has a level associated with it (internally). You are interviewing for that job, not the company as a whole, so if that job's level doesn't match what you're expecting, then you're probably out of luck unless they internally tag you at a highet level before the interview. This matters because the interviews are different depending on the level; we never up-level, but we often down-level. An L4 loop has 4 interviews, L5 has 5 interviews, and L6 (usually) has 6 interviews.
Thanks. Had 6 interviews. So I am tagged to L6, right?
Thank everyone above. Have updated the post.
Should have asked before the interview
Thanks. Is my YOE OK for L6?
Sde 3 is team lead, should be ok if you come from other fang
