FB Product DS salary is just fine! But not very good
Fb is ok to start with but has nice refreshers this is how people end up with nice TC. But offers aren’t that great (less than 300k) usually.

fb ds includes pure analytics and pays very well for that kind of role, although I've heard of some other companies (e.g. lyft) paying more

I hear it’s SQL all day and no modeling.
From my experience, a lot of the work in DS is in combing legacy datasets to get them usable for ML. The actual modeling parts are “relatively” straight forward for MOST use cases. Obviously you’ll have some features or products that do pretty advanced ML, but for things like optimization it’s a lot more time spent building populations to train off of
