What is a good way other than cash to keep while doing foreign transactions ? Can Chase Sapphire be used for transactions without any foreign transaction fee ?
Sapphire reserve. And yes no fees
+1
Capital one
Apple Card
The first one you find.
I use Revolut. Mainly because it's prepay and free in case it gets stolen. also exchange rates are commission free just like ATM withdrawals.
If you have Chase Reserve, use that. If not, use any other non-Amex travel card as Amex acceptance is low outside big cities. Ensure that the cards you are using have no foreign transaction fee. In addition to this, open a Schwab bank account and get a Schwab Platinum debit card that allows free international debit card transactions and will reimburse you for all ATM fees incurred including withdrawal charges
I go to Europe a lot, Amex acceptance nowadays feels the same as in the US. As in most places accept and a random restaurant might not doesnt matter if its SF or Dusseldorf. Used to be way worse in Europe but I think the past 5 years has changed alot.
Agree that it has improved but there is still a big delta between Amex and Visa/MasterCard acceptance as compared to the US, particularly outside of the big cities
Transferwise
I use PayPal double cash. Zero foreign transaction fee.
Chase Sapphire Reserve or Preferred works! Have used both. Preffered is the cheaper card. Reserve works out better based on the perks. There's no bad choice honestly. Let me know if you need a referral :D
I already have that. And afaik, they stopped giving referral money :P
also upped the annual fee so no longer worth it
Pretty sure that is one-of their selling points
