Ignoring the glorified job descriptions posted by product firms on their hiring page, what do PgMs really do in large enterprise software setups? I've been in solution consulting/ implementation for more than half of my career and stepped into PgMing after. Even when PgMing at other places (before Atlassian), I always had "ownership" of the programs and worked as an equal with Product and Engineering (sometimes more than an equal tbh). But Atlassian is different, PgMs I've seen and worked with (very senior and respected folks coming from diverse backgrounds) are reduced to a role similar to a PMO. In other words, only ownership they have is of status reporting and process custodians without actually having a say in the strategy/ planning and execution of the program. And Product and Engineering seem to dictate terms than consider equals. Is this true elsewhere also? TC 40 lpa YoE 12 #google #facebook #microsoft #netflix #amazon #atlassian

Curious, which tech company has PgMs setting the strategy?
