Do you think Intel is still relevant in the tech world with its silicon/hardware innovations? Or is it all about SW these days? Does HW matter?
In the realm of semi conductors and processors, isn't Intel the king? In terms of impact and recognition, I'm not sure how popular you folks are, but I've heard only good things about working there.
I'd be interested in learning more about Intel and the work environment there.
Same here. Are you guys mostly based in Portland? Do you have a bit presence in the Valley?
The largest sprawl of campuses is in Oregon, but HQ is down in the valley. The culture here is pretty great, as big companies go. We don't have tequila Thursdays or bouncy castles or whatever valley-based tech companies have, but I get recognized for what I do, work on some incredible projects that I see active results in the marketplace from, travel, work in multiple different groups and in different roles. I've had shitty managers, and great managers, but better yet I've had some fantastic mentors that have gone out of their way to teach me about a variety of things, and I've passed that one to new hires when they came in. I have a large amount of freedom in my work too. I have some things I have to do because they keep the business running, but once that's done the rest of my time is mine to drive whatever I want. New programs, new ideas - I can implement something if I can figure out what the direction should be, and if it fails I learn from it, if it succeeds it gets recognized. I'm encouraged to push back and speak my piece if I don't agree with something, regardless of how senior the person is telling me to do it. Basically - I feel spoiled as hell by the amount of creative freedom I have, and I can't imagine working anywhere else.
headquarters in Santa Clara, intel was one of the founding companies of the silicon valley, though the bay area now has mostly sales, marketing, some engineering. most of the design and manufacturing and software is in OR in the Portland suburbs... its a good company, though seems to have lost its way in the recent mobile revolution...
Intel powers everything that's not ARM. Admittedly, there are a lot of ARM devices out there, but Intel certainly still seems relevant. We'll see what quantum brings though!
Intel definitely is very relevant. so called tech industry today is hyping on the likes of taxi, music player companies and forgetting the real tech. very few can match the tech prowess of the likes of Intel (TSM, Samsung ?)
intel pay is reaalllyyy low
I didn't think that way till I downloaded Blind. Ignorance is bliss.
I'd love to work there. But hear the perks and salary are blah
I worked there many years ago on device drivers. I found the work interesting and fulfilling but somethings wrong when they pay skilled engineers like that less than what SV companies pay engineers who change font sizes in CSS
yep that is the problem.... they pay average and the stock is shit....
SW = Software; HW= Hardware :-)
Makes sense! Thanks!
