Hi peeps. Looking at Glassdoor reviews for Twitch before I sign on and people keep talking about how horrible HR is. What does that actually mean? I've never had to deal with HR before, so what could be happening over there that would make them bad? Thanks!

Any Indians Think Kashmir Should be Independent?
HR does not take their work seriously, and does not take criticism well. HR boss said "fuck Blind" in all hands not too long ago, the truth (that you cant have an honest conversation) hurts.
So how does this effect me as a potential new recruit?
So how does this effect me as a potential new recruit?
Ignorance and inability to execute a task/action across the finish line. They decrease vs add value to a process. This is a general definition of any bad business partner, not specific to HR
Bad HR at Twitch means: - tone deaf statements to a company that is not 100 people anymore - no transparent promotion process - clueless recruiting help for hiring manager and internal teams - does not take feedback well, despite that being a core Twitch value that is written on TV screens throughout office - not giving concrete truthful no-b.s answers to questions at all hands - taking 12 months to address external feedback on Glassdoor, Blind, Reddit
All of this. Also, there is a group that loves to gossip and talk about personnel issues in the cafeteria. Within earshot of everyone.
HR is supposed to be the one “on your side” for things like personnel disputes, benefits issues, family issues, etc. These are the people you are supposed to go to when you don’t feel comfortable going to your boss or your boss’ boss. If you have never encountered these situations and HR is pretty invisible to you, then it shouldn’t affect your decision.
HR on your side? Hahahahahaha Hahahahahahahaha
I also thought this was strange.
"Bad HR" term is basically used for bad HR department.. not just one person.. HR department (HRD) might not interact with you directly on day to day basis.. but they play major part in your career.. HRD is responsible to survey the market and determine the salary ranges ppl should get working at a company.. they are responsible to set/adjust company's culture... They are responsible to provide tools for employees career growth.. etc etc..
I think it depends on the role you take and the org you join. I’ve dealt with HR a lot and for the most part the tactical stuff I need to achieve is more than fine. A lot of people at twitch blame hr for their lack of promotion when the issue is actually with their managers. I don’t work in HR and I’d be happy to talk about this over coffee if you are seriously considering accepting an offer at twitch.
Seconding the “gossip” stuff. Once overheard an HR rep (female) gabbing with a twitch lawyer (also female) about which women in the office were most attractive... over a bottle of wine... in the twitch dining area... I was standing across the room. :(
I never heard of good HR. Mostly if they contact you it’s a bad news and when you have to contact them usually nothing happens.
This is why I'm so confused. This comes up over and over again in their reviews.
I don’t think that it is company specific problem. Wherever you go it’s the same. I have heard stories in amazon that when you complain about your manager nothing comes out of it.
