What good has Facebook brought to this world?

Most Facebook employees are so snobbish in Blind (sample pic attached from a thread today). TC and smartness dont account for everything, especially after a point. What good does your work bring to the world and society? Mostly your company has made people waste time in a virtual world doing useless things when they could have done important things in the real world. And let's not even get into the fake news, online bullying, live suicides etc that your highly valuable company has made possible. Or the vanity that Instagram has promoted, at the cost of humongous computing and energy resources. Honestly, what makes you come to office everyday when you could use your skills and intelligence to do something worthwhile?

I think it’s just made us aware that humans pretty ignorant and will believe anything that’s that’s shown as fact.

Uber people talk about culture 🤦‍♂️Facebook is below the bar

Uber buddhu OP Aug 10, 2018

We are talking about external impact, not internal culture.

Amazon lkjhgfdsap Aug 11, 2018

As much as Uber’s culture blows, they do have external impact. Facebook... not so much.

Airbnb jim.hodlen Aug 10, 2018

connecting people and entertaining them seems pretty useful to me.

Oath OPnd70 Aug 10, 2018

So did MySpace and looked how they worked out

Airbnb jim.hodlen Aug 10, 2018

Way back in 2010 when Facebook was still evolving and I was sitting somewhere in east coast on a chilly night of Jan with a coworker: I said trust me in few years a study will come out that Facebook makes people depressed. I believe in 2013 a study came out confirming the same. What both Facebook and Instagram do is glorify people who are absolutely horrible from within to feel that yes they have 600 friends and each pic of theirs get 100’s of likes confirming. That yes they are all well liked and loved. If you see a trend most honest and real people have absolute genuine number of friends which is under 60 while all fake ones have 400+ friends and you see their life is completely revolving around likes and comments. Check it out on instagram and see most likes are from people you wouldn’t even know. Why?

Reddit DzrI52 Aug 10, 2018

I like where you’re going with this

Facebook Dr. Dobbs Aug 10, 2018

Got a link to that study?

What good does uber bring? Just saying. We all out to make money, that's all

Uber Ihdtarvmcg Aug 10, 2018

Uber let’s people who otherwise won’t have genuine source of income to earn money.. For us as people it breaks the fucking monopoly of taxis and cab who would charge 20$ for 1 mile journey.

Airbnb jim.hodlen Aug 10, 2018

you’re also taking the huge hassle of car ownership out of riders’ life so they can spend more time instagramming and netflix and chill.

Amazon !==! Aug 10, 2018

It’s not all bad, but I’ve kept friendships with far-off friends without it. As for the people, many of the FB folks I meet are great. Not all though, the designers in the Seattle office I encountered were smug little shits.

OP just found out he failed the FB phone screen 😂

Uber buddhu OP Aug 10, 2018

Funny, but am not interviewing. Want to wait till IPO. I got pissed at FB employee PimpC s comment on the thread "Why do recruiters want to talk on the phone" in Blind
