No they don't. You choose to hold and then they are stocks that can go up or down. If you sell and are higher, you get the higher amount

AWS is not a separate entity. If AMZN goes up, they will give you less extra shares over the next review. If AMZN goes down, they will give you less. They will try to match your TC, subtracting salary and bonus, and dividing the result on the price of a share at the time of review to find total number of shares you should receive over the that period of time.
I love this constant distinction between AWS and Amazon, both internally and externally. I think some AWS SDEs legitimately believe they're separate companies.
