I am going to turn 40 next month and was wondering about this. My NW is USD500k (including retirement savings, rsu, stock, cash, home equity). Just an average person who came to US at age 33. Didn't had much savings prior to that. Have been working in LCOL location (mid-west) with LCOL salary, so do not have much to show. I often feel that I am at the bottom of the barrel, reading different net worth posts about faang folks here on blind. Am I not in a good situation? Just want average life, good enough to afford a house, raise kids, pay for kids education and sufficient retirement savings. #personalfinance TC: $265k Annual expenses: $70k-$80k approximately
If you are healthy and happy then your are already rich.
you are asking/checking on the wrong platform. Blind is full of FAANG and represents top 1% earners of tech. Believe me or not, you are doing well.
Thanks for reinforcing my belief that blind is not a representative of the real world and have skewed income data (sorry faang folks). I hope I am at par/above par of the general population median.
A simple method is to calculate if you are a UAW, AAW, or PAW.
I came to the US at the same age as you did, had around 500k by 40 and 1mil by 44. So you're good.
Same- came to US at 33, turned 40 this month, NW is around 500k All I know is that I barely deserve this. Lots of luck and care from other people went into this. I have witnessed younger techies N times my NW but with no peace or love or kindness in their lives. This is enough. More than enough.
This makes me feel good. Because in the NW measuring contest, enough will never be enough. I just want to step back and enjoy like as well.
Do you sleep good at night? Thats what matters. Some people might have more nw but health is degrading at 32. Thats my case
Sorry to hear that. Do spare time and take care of your wellbeing. I am able to sleep okay (other than the snoring part).
I guy I used to worked with died in his early 30s. That was a wake up call for me to stop the career dick measuring.
"Didn't had much saving". Grammar indicates North Indian. Good savings for 40. Enjoy your life. Stay healthy. If you plan to R2I after a few years, then you have enough for your lifetime
I vote Telugu
North Indians have better grammar. You can boost your ego by showing your micro managerial traits… did with past participle is the most common mistake that most of the well educated Indians make
Do you have kids? Are you Indian?
Not funny
Yes, and yes.
