My background: non cs background, master studied at a ivy school with non cs engineering degree, poor gap around 3.2. First job worked at a startup wrote a trading system in c++. Second job worked at Uber as a backend go eng. Third job worked at Google Ads as backend infra in c++. Never had a chance to break into those trading firms. To ppl who worked at top trading firms, my question for you: how much of a chance do I stand? What kind of preparation you think I should do?#engineering #software #swe #quant #citadel #hudsonrivertrading
Chances are fairly good getting an interview for SWE.
How about the interview itself? I heard it’s mostly focused on OS, C++ as they care about performance
How hard is it to pass the interview
You're making it out like it super hard .. just start applying to them as often as you can.
I always had the impression that these firms have higher standard than FAANG interviews. They don’t ask much LC, no system design, and mostly focus on low level OS related knowledge.
My entire new grad on site was system design lol. A significant portion of the work at HFT firms isn’t fpga programming in C
How do I even get an interview? With 4 YOE (including 2 at Bloomberg) and tons of external recruiters hitting me up about them, I still can't get an interview with JS, 2S or Citadel. Wonder if it's because I have a non-CS degree from a no-name college
External recruiter doesn’t help? Thought they could increase chance of getting interview at least
When was the last time you applied? For a bit we didn’t have many roles but now we have a ton. So if you haven’t applied in a few months I’d recommend applying directly now.
If it's as an SWE, you should have a pretty good shot
Not with a 3.2 GPA
This is the funny thing about trading firms, after working for a few years they still care about GPA.
