Why does leetcode get so much hate?
Contemplating an offer. On one hand I’m excited because I love GitHub and their contribution to open source. There are quite a few developers I look up to at GitHub. On the other hand I’m wary that a lot of people are leaving and leadership seems to have issues. Is it a good place to learn/ grow a career? Is it really becoming super corporate? Honest insights/ Thoughts?
It used to be legendary. Now it’s becoming a MSFT feature farm. Some teams are still good. It’s not what it used to be. Most eng talent is on way out as soon as the acquisition stock vests.
I wouldn't join if I were in your position. It's worse than MSFT in that there are a lot of growing pains in becoming more corporate
Ah, what kind of growing pains? Do these affect your everyday work?
It’s slowly becoming corporate, definitely not as corporate as MSFT is. I personally love it. Great benefits, love my team, and culture is definitely a lot better than what my peers tell me at AWS or MSFT. I used to be an IBMer (intern) and would definitely take the jump to GitHub if that’s the only offer you have on the table. In my opinion, it’s a huge step up (pay, benefits, culture).
Basically MSFT. Regretful I joined.
If you would like the idea of msft, you might like it here. GitHub used to be interesting. It had its major problems but we had a really really good turn around for two years before the acquisition. But now we are msft and have lost our spark. I’d the idea of working on Azure DevOps excited you, this might be the job for you.
The acquisition definately changed GitHub but it is a far cry from working in Azure DevOps... The sheer impact you have on the world. The remote first culture. Cmon...
If you saw our aspirations before the acquisition and what we’ve become, you’d understand. If you were at gh before the acquisition and heard our cto speak, you’d definitely understand. We have lost a step or five. But if you weren’t here before the acquisition and don’t know any of this, it still looks like an amazing opportunity because of exactly what you said. But for those that know, we feel loss
Great place to be. Very impactful work that almost 60 million people get to utilize
