Joined a team without an EM. Our team hired an EM recently, but I’m not sure what they do? What do your engineering managers do? Like what is their function? I am asked to design architect diagrams, integrate 3rd party applications, create user stories, tasks, implement, testing do code reviews. My engineering manager schedules meetings from my understanding. Doesn’t bother to check if tickets are complete and just puts them on the sprint. They story point our tasks? Assign my tasks to other engineerings? TC: 110k 🥜 Startup #tech #FAANG #engineering

Depends on the company. They may be a people leader, build vision/roadmaps, be a scrum master/project manager, or a tech lead, or an external interface for the team, or all/some of the above. The most important role they play is to grow their people while delivering to teams charter and goals.

Depends on the company. Primarily it should be the growth/career of the ICs on their team. Some companies will treat them as tech leads though.
Personally, How do you know if your EM is a good or bad one when you have a few years of experience?
Are you happy? That’s one good indicator
