What is the success rate once you make it to on-site with Amazon?

Just wondering if the first 2 rounds with Amazon are where the attrition happens, or if they err on the side of keeping people in the funnel until they can see them in-person.

I was told 20-30% once on site, by an HR friend.

1/5 which is 20%

Amazon FitRaani Feb 1, 2018

Approx 20-30%

Amazon WocG38 Feb 1, 2018

About 1 in 5 get an offer.

Bad phone screening then... Should be much higher if the phone screens were done properly

Pretty sure google is similar, it might even be lower.

No kidding! It’s my first time interviewing at a major tech company, but in all of my other job searches, it’s seemed like you have a good chance at the job by the in-person interview.

Amazon bPRG82 Feb 1, 2018

I got rejected twice by amazon before making on third. Its pretty high

Do you have a sense of what happened the first 2 times and why the 3rd time was a success?

Amazon gte305f Feb 1, 2018

I'd say SDE is closer to 1 out of 10 get an offer from my experience. SE closer to 1 out of 4.

Sounds difficult to get in Amazon 😒

Amazon Hooliganss Feb 1, 2018

Wouldn’t necessarily call it difficult, just that here’s a huge volume of applicants.

Amazon looking4 Feb 1, 2018

I took many interviews and my inclined/not inclined ratio has been 15/85%. In most cases my vote matches with other interviewers’ votes.

Do you feel there’s a big thing people do right or wrong to end up in either bucket? My understanding is: approach every answer from a customer-first perspective and worry more about laying out your thought process while showing you would be open to other solutions over trying to be sure you give the best solution. Also, never try to solve a problem without clarifying and noting assumptions.

Sounds about right, although not everything has to be customer-focused. There’s specific questions for that. Also, don’t prematurely optimize, do it after you’ve got a working solution and you have time to burn.
