I am a "Data Engineer" I worked at multiple big corporations, built frameworks for processing Large amounts of data, both time series and structural data (using spark) Never used significant amount of SQL. I have been considered a key resource in the past 3 years in two teams I worked on. I even lead a war room an year ago. I have never performed well in the technical interviews, all my positions I got are because managers wanted me. But, now I left my job and trying to get into new positions, I am performing like a child (even worse than before), one of my friend who mock(ish) interviewed me says that he can't believe that I wrote my past code in GitHub. I *suck* at interviews and thrive in working environment? To the question asking what's my question: looking for suggestions more than "just leetcode" for improving my situation TC:100k (not anymore) YOE: 3
LeetCode sure, but do more mock interviews. Maybe you are nervous
Do more mock interviews. You can check out pramp. Mock interview will help you in building confidence and be better prepared. You will also get to interview other people and that might show you how you should approach things.
Commit to preparation. See the purpose in leetcode.
More interviews may help
Now you know why so many people on Blind complain about interviews (especially LC) not being representative of the jobs. Unfortunately, interviewing is a separate skill you need to develop and explicitly practice.
DM me for more details if you wanna go thru mock SQL interview for DE.
Practice is the only way. Do lot of coding with a timer to simulate pressure. Use STAR template for behavioral questions - prep detailed answers to the common ones
I felt this way after 17+ yoe. Things are different because in a downturn the interviewers focus on filtering candidates by a set of criteria less relevant to pragmatic skills. You’ll regain your confidence after 2 weeks of LeetCode practice. The rest comes after 2-3 rejections which give you feedback on what holes to cover, and they might not even be technical. (For me it was the length of my resume)
