What kind of experience do you need to get into HFT firms?

Currently working as a front end engineer. Was always interested in finance. (Passed CFA exam 1/2 in college). Currently have 1.5 YOE, should I make a switch to backend and try to apply for HFT companies? If so, what backend teams would be best? Or is it okay to stick with front end and apply?

What made you interested in working for the parasitic middlemen of the financial system? The money?

Microsoft Homotopy Jan 24, 2020

I’m not looking to start an internet debate here, but HFT is not “parasitic”. It’s pretty common for outsiders to shit on HFT and the entire financial industry because they don’t understand what they actually do and because it fits into their “us” vs. “the system” narrative.

HFT firms and market makers are the only reason you're able to trade stocks easily these days.
