Work background: I work for a tier 2 company and have recently learned from my lead and a principle swe that it’s unlikely for me to be promoted this upcoming cycle which means I would have to wait another year. From my subjective view, it does not take more than 40hrs per week for me to be on the safe zone to avoid being on the layoff list. Personal background: Got my GC last year. Have a 6.5k monthly mortgage to pay and 80k cash in wealthfront just in case. I somewhat save just a little every month with maxing out 401k. Planning (hoping) to have kid this year. I’m debating if I should start grinding LC and looking, or given the current job market, I can spend some time to try out a few ideas with some friends that I always been wanting to. I know I’m not the best with LC and there’re tons of competition atm, but also, 95% of startups fail lol, so Blinders, I kindly ask for your advice. Tc: 300k Yoe 4.5
Why single answer? Solving one LC problem every few days can get you pretty far and you'll have time for a job and/or working on whatever you like. Wait till you have kids, then you'll realize how much time you actually had. But having kids will also teach you (the hard way) how to be more organized and use your precious time more efficiently if you're not doing that already
Thanks. I think you’re very right about kid taking up time. Hence I don’t think I would have time to solve LCs and work on other stuff. And not sure if one LC every few days would be helpful with this market. Last time I was looking, it took 2 months of consistent study/interview. Guess I’m not the best :(
