Starting at FB next week. What should I expect from the upcoming weeks? TC:320k YOE:7
I’m starting April 1st. Do all new hires go through the same bootcamp or is it different based on role?
Huge TC for an E4
Lots of tech classes and hands on coding work, first for simple tasks in potential areas of interest and then tasks for teams with potential interest
Thanks, for the first actual answer!
Starting on April 1st as well.
320 is awesome for E4. Mind sharing the break down?
Bootcamp is awesome. You will get enough training to be productive on day one once you join a team. You will also have the opportunity to sit with 2-3 teams for a week so that you can make an informed decision. Some stuff I recommend: - Pay attention to devinfra classes (mercurial, phabricator, configerator, logging, dataswarm). I didn't and I regretted it later. - Do tasks for teams you are interested in. - Make friends. Make a lot of friends. Your network in FB means the difference between getting something done in two hours vs two weeks. Start building it from day one. - Approach PHP with an open mind :)
I disagree with some of those statements. Specifically don’t care about the classes you’ll learn on a team. Focus on finding a team you want to be on. Making friends is good too. If you can try meeting people, using bootcamp bff. This’ll help you for your career anywhere.
Agree with all except php. Stay away from Hack and any team that extensively uses it as it'll hurt your productivity and sanity. It's also worse than Perl.
Umm... there are a lot of bad things about Hack but productivity is not one of them in my opinion. I work in Hack, C++ Java and Python on regular basis, getting stuff done is fastest in Hack by far.
I guess when you learn to convert between 3 different generations of collections fluently.
Two things: Make friends - we're a social company by nature and you will come to treasure these relationships you build. Secondly, bunnylol wut
E4 or E5?
E4
Jesus! $320k for E4. I should rejoin FB at E6
