What’s a fair minimum wage for retail workers?

Retail is known to exploit people, especially the low earners. We really should be paying people a fair and live-able wage.

Am I the only one who will honestly admit they don’t need to be paid more than $10?

What's your job role and TC?

Oh no you dit ent! They should def make a livable wage! You’re just emo because Bezos now has a plan to kill off the smaller competitors (Overstock, Walmart, Target, Wayfair) and pay workers a higher wage.

It really depends on the area. In the bay area, even $15 is not enough

Fair's got nothing to do with it

Wage should match skill set. Entry level roles such as retail, warehouse production, fast food etc should be compensated with entry level pay. We all had to start somewhere and minimum wage for most of us was a motivator to learn more, do more and become more.

Zappos Mixtwix Oct 10, 2018

I'm not sure that's fair. On what level are you grading the "skill set?" For example one of the skills that is paramount in say retail is, active listening. Trust me it is a skill that needs to be learned and trained as much as any other skill. Why should that get paid less? Some people in much higher paid jobs don't even have that skill. What scale are you using? Why is this skill worth less money?

Why do you assume that skill is more or less valuable? Why do you assume that I assume that?

Depends on where you live as that affects cost of living

Minimum wage in pa is $7.25 an hr. The last increase was like ten years ago. Even entry level needs twice that to barely live. Perhaps those in the highest seats could say make half a million a year instead of a million. 😒

Ya'll are wild. It's hilarious how the common adage, "you get what you pay for" works for everything but labor.

Amazon cayle Oct 10, 2018

Agree. But what if I only need $10/hr quality?

Zappos Mixtwix Oct 10, 2018

Lol, nobody only needs $10/hr quality. Especially not regarding the people you're trusting to take care of your customers.
