People just like throwing around higher numbers? IMHO, TC is an invention of corporations so they can say they pay you more than they actually do. When everyone only discloses their TC and not base it just makes everything more confusing.
I agree!!
Maybe we should use w2?
This is the winning answer
Problem is that some people and especially benefit administrators (cough...Aon Hewitt...cough) like including benefits into the TC like disability insurance or free lunches or tuition reimbursement.
Fascinating fact: my college internship was 25 years ago with Hewitt Associates, in Lincolnshire IL. I updated COBOL programs and JCL scripts for the Flexible Benefits Administration team. Two of their clients I supported were Monsanto and Arthur Andersen. I had to wear a suit every day, and had to arrive by 8:30am. They didn’t offer me a full time return because I was late too many times (by 15 minutes at the most), and because I was caught nodding off at my desk on occasion. It wasn’t because of my work, apparently. And that set the tone for the past 25 years: I can do great work, but I have very minor non-intrusive flaws that sometimes lead to a parting of ways. Amazon was no different.
@jNeo42 where do you work now ? I too have similar issues. Do you think its better to force yourself into a change ? I feel stressed out about having to be there before a certain time and I am never able to sleep well. I like the idea of doing good work but complying to all these office rules makes me want to hate my life
It doesn't make much sense to compare comp while excluding equity
For years, I looked up salary of big companies, and it never made sense for me to move to a higher cost of living place for those salaries. Factor in stock as part of the equation, and everything changes.
I don't trust any TCs given in Blind :) Why do I want to tell people I don't know my TC?!?! Always 20-50% upside
No, it's not. I agree it can get confusing with stocks grants and vest schedules but bottom line is how much you got paid per year. And many people get more than the base pay in other incentives and it's totally valid to include those in TC. There are some trolls and people generally hype those numbers but most of them are true and accurate.
