I've been applying to internships hard since August and I've gotten a grand total of 1 interview. I'm a US citizen and a junior so it shouldn't be this hard...right? Would greatly appreciate if someone with experience could provide some feedback!
Application portals ate black holes. Try talking to people in industry. Make cold contacts on LinkedIn if necessary.
Unfortunately, being junior makes it harder, not easier. It's a tough market out there
Your resume looks fine. The market sucks for interns and entry level positions. Companies can be picky rn so most likely they’ll take someone with some transferable experience first. Use personal referrals and networking to get an interview
Try changing the sequence of the sections. Experience, projects, education, skills, and interests.
Offhand your resume looks straight out of a template. Also no experience since last year. Both look like red flags to me in the 3sec manager review :-) That said, you’ve got great experience. Try highlighting more of what you’ve done before now (high school, open source, school groups, etc.) Also try customizing your resume to reflect the job req. (while being truthful). Every resume should be tailored to the job you want and skills you can highlight
He’s an intern, of course he wouldn’t have had experience since last year
It’s the same thing. A good recruiter won’t care
Dont forget that they mostly use some software to do keyword search among thousands of cvs
Hey bro I was in a similar spot when I was your age (I was a 2019 grad). It’s tough for a few reasons (high competition for a low supply of internships/entry levels jobs), but certainly not impossible. I found a lot of success with reaching out to small startups for internship positions, even if they weren’t necessarily openly hiring. That can be a good situation bc the job you do get will have no competition, and it’s a novel story for future interviews down the road. Check out Ycombinator, Wellfound, etc
Your resume looks good to me. It's a tough market right now for < 3 YOE. Hang in there and don't give up. Things will get better.
I graduated in 2007, right before the housing collapse. You're in a similar situation. Just keep applying. You'll be fine in the end. My first job, which had layoffs a year after I started paid 42k. You'll have a far better time when the economy improves. Tc 250
There are things you could improve about your resume, but they won’t move the needle. You have a great resume, better than most college grads. The market is just awful if you’re in college right now :(
