IBM hired me at 29yo in 1999 and paid me a bonus big enough to pay cash for a 3,000sqft home on a golf course but they are largely irrelevant today. Burroughs, Compuware and Unysis don’t exist anymore. Why the hell are you people seemingly clamoring to work at tech companies or FANG that history is clearly telling you won’t be around for very long? Microsoft is the next IBM. We won’t be talking about FANG 5 years from now. Tech companies come and go…tech workers who can’t adapt deliver Uber Eats orders to tech workers who can adapt…that’s a fact!
Thank you for the Ted talk grandpa/granny
Yes I’m old but still very relevant.
We will be the judge of that. TC?
I tried pretty hard to find meaning in the op.
Unisys, with correct spelling, is still around. Like IBM, they're a big consultancy.
Not barely as big as they used to be. When was the last time you bumped into a Unisys consultant at the airport? I am guessing never.
They're around in name only, kinda like Yahoo and AOL.
Thx for the gyan, now please tc or ...
Op made big money with ibm but tells us why run behind faang.?..may be we also want to get rich ?
I am not rich but I am not starving either
Exactly, things come and go, better get it while the getting is good.
Lol I worked for IBM. What a dumpster fire
Microsoft had already existed by the time you got hired. Look what happens to ibm and msft since then. It can become the new ibm but definitely not within 5 years. It is the most diversified business among all the tech, the current management clearly knows what they do.
I agree that’s why I own over 1,000 shares of their stock. How did I accumulate that position? Selling IBM
I make $1,500 to $5,000 per WEEK selling covered calls against my long $MSFT position. Do I even need to work?
So, OP, what companies do you suggest we look at?
Tech roles at Recession proof companies like universities, public transport, banks
Wait.... First you were going on about how we need to adapt to get with the latest thing and not stick around with the old guard. I was excited that there might be a new wave of companies that would make FANG obsolete. Now you want us to go to places the probably pay 100k to implement an employee portal in SAP?
That’s why invest in S&P 500. It adjusts to the evolution
I’d say Dell is the next IBM.
Okay but what if they merge?
Dell is already an IBM
