When will Meta open their own cloud?
They have the infra(GPUs), talent, money. When will they open their own cloud? For comparison AWS and MSFT both did around 24bil revenue last quarter with Google doing ~8bil. This seems like a no brainer? #tech #meta #msft #google #microsoft
FB doesn't run on micro services though. It's a monolith. The architecture is different
How does this matter? Not saying we will or won’t, but the way we build code internally has little to do with how it’s run.
Meta has almost no experience in running kube clusters at scale. Meta also has no features that is common place in many of the cloud providers.
While they have all that I don’t think they have the team in place to do massive b2b enterprise sales. It’s expensive and complicated

I can imagine some person meta hired right out of college trying to drive some cloud enterprise adoption but has no concept of what makes somewhere like msft successful
Why provide cloud services when the people are the workers for social media companies?
Does meta have any multi tenancy in their systems ?
tougher competition (already big players are in market and saturated the space) so less ROI vs investing in AI or RL, IMO
There's a giant leap needed to go from internal products to external. Just look at how long and how much money it took GCP just to become profitable.
Who is entirely hosted on Azure? I know META isn't. META has their own data centers.
We just want you to think we have our own data centers. We build giant empty buildings in the middle of nowhere to keep up the illusion.
The problem is that cloud is in our infra and we have the worst most mindless infra leadership.
