I think Stipe has enough customer base to overtake Square or Clover . But when will they go live so they can buy those companies and become a good competitor to PayPal and Adyen ? PayPal and Ayden change too much fees.
Stripe is great for code moneys or shops with budget. Square with its pos machine hardware is superior for average retail shops as a pure payment system. Hardware is a hard asset. It will take many years for strip to catch up even if it does choose to engage in hardware competition.
Square is also moving into Stripe’s e-commerce ecosystem. Took them long enough. I think Stripe doesn’t have too much to worry about. Plenty of room for the two of them
Stripe has had hardware for a while now. And we were one of the first partners with IPhone tap to pay no little square needed. https://stripe.com/terminal/tap-to-pay-on-iphone
Yeah they will lose the only reason people stay there, the carrot is strong here.
They will go public once they start seeing TC in your post
They are unlikely to go public for another 4-5 years. At least until the coming recession passes.
They will go public when you understand the difference between charge and change. JK
Never
Lots of assumptions in a small paragraph. Square is well-positioned to take over PayPal, but you assume that won’t happen. As others have said, they also dominate the hardware-side and focus on small-medium businesses. Stripe’s fundamental business model differs from Block’s and I’d even argue block has better talent and ability to iterate quicker if competition arises. To answer your question, Stripe, like many pre-ipo companies would be foolish to IPO until we see the tech sector approaching ATH again. I believe they still value themselves at ~75B, which is absurdly high right now. I wouldn’t hold my breath for at least a year, but maybe 2-5 more realistically.
So it can go to roundabout more than half a decade.
Definitely after rsu's start expiring
When are they expiring?

Crossed a line with my boss
Stripe had a great opportunity to go public but they kept waiting thinking they would get a better rate at IPO. But with everything going downhill they won't go public for another 3 years in my opinion.
