Hi all, looking for feedback from Blind users. Been at Google for several years (now in Seattle/Bellevue/Kirkland area) and operating at high L6 (not sure when will get to L7 though as it depends on L+1 opportunities showing up) on IC track. Since been at Google for long, I feel I am underpaid. Awarded TC is around $500k (although because of stock growth it's not a bad deal - closer to $625k). If I wanted to switch where would you all recommend with my skillset? Main thing is that I don't want a hit in WLB - primary reason I have stuck around so long. (Already know about levels.fyi. Looking for anecdotal feedback from this forum). #engineering #software #swe #staff #tc #google #alphabet
L7 is a god at Amazon in case you want to jump . Wlb will be team dependent regardless of what blind says .
Good to know, thanks! Any specific org / team suggestion which does not live upto the terrible Amazon WLB reputation?
Amazon sux
Making over 625k + having a good WLB as an IC sounds very hard to do, especially since you'd need to really justify that $ tag in the first year or so post switch. Also, you're probably already at the highest paying good WLB company right now. You might be able to get this on a very very org-dependent basis though.
You haven't told us anything about your skillset
One unfortunate thing is you can rule out remote companies immediately. Their whole shtick is predicated on you being okay with a W2 paycut to live in Kentucky.
Amazon L7 or MS L67 or LinkedIn Senior Staff? My guess is that a lot of people in your situation take a DEish position at a pre-ipo, but not sure. That would be a big WLB hit though.
What’s DEish?
Distinguished Engineer. Though G L6 is not as high as I thought, so they should have options like Meta E7 or Apple ICT6 too.
Why do you want to change? Just get more life out of your current place.
Yep, that's definitely an option. Although a new challenge/change is always exciting.
Could you try a transfer within Google? Maybe working on something different and with more L+1 opportunities?
Yep, that's definitely an option!

Do you really feel special in your Tesla?
500k Underpaid lol. I realize there are some crazy rates out there but that is a lot of money.
Only Blind. What the actual hell.
I mean in context of my skill set & company tier. I know people of worse caliber making more. I understand this is still considered "highly paid" in context of the real world - and am very fortunate to be in this situation. No need to be condescending :)
