Thinking about accepting an offer in Redwood City. Moving from Austin TX. TC=230k. Where should I live in Bay Area? Looking for decent schools and ~1 hour commute to Redwood City.
Foster City is family friendly and has great schools
Milpitas
How long is the commute to Redwood City?
Over an hour each way. Probably closer to 2 than 1.
North San Jose, it’s a bit pricey but it is worth it
What makes more sense to get to Redwood City, driving or using public transport?
It depends on you, most people I know uses bart (train system) but I prefer driving
230 bay area? Do your homework, that's middle class wages. https://www.timesheraldonline.com/2019/02/22/in-some-bay-area-cities-making-200000-a-year-means-youre-middle-class/
Low middle class, if there is such a thing
I am going for the long run. It’s ok to just make ends meet for a year or 2
You make 230k at Dell in Austin? What do you do there?
That’s the offer i am about to accept in Bay Area
Ok what's your tc and yoe now?
That’s a lateral move then, no significant increase in wages factoring in the big spike in expenses
Agree. It will end up being a decrease probably. I will forego a promotion here
Fremont
That’s what I thought as well after looking at the map and rent
The armpit of the Bay Area
Why make 1 zip code your home when you can experience it all?! https://www.nbcbayarea.com/news/local/Homes-on-Wheels-Meet-the-People-Who-Live-in-RVs-on-San-Francisco-Streets-503418641.html
Should just upgrade from Dell in Austin.. why go to the Bay area for sub 300k?
I can. But it’s Google. Should have more opportunities in the long run.
Is that L3 or L4? If the latter you should try to get a competing offer somewhere.
Redwood city
That was easy...
Too expensive
