I'd like to live somewhere centralwith restaurants/bars/parks nearby, away from homeless, and also close to the highway for when the office opens up again. Currently thinking of Alamo square (the side near Hayes valley/lower Haight). Seems to be very walkable with a variety of neighborhoods nearby, and short drive down Oak Street to the Octavia onramp. Thoughts/recommendations?
Potrero. Octavia ramp gets backed up in PM and AM all the time during peak commute. Not perfect. Alt is Outer sunset, Richmond or Presidio where you can get to 1 fast.
Fb shuttle to hayes valley doesn’t use that ramp.
Isn't potrero out of the way a bit? Seems like less happening over there and less of an SF feel. I'd only need to start commuting in 6+ months, so worst case I can move then if the traffic is that bad. I'd plan to take the shuttle outside of rush hour anyway.
Fillmore is a good option too, you're close to Octavia ramp, but there's crime and shit on the street if you're okay with that.
I think I'd prefer to walk to Fillmore/Japantown from Alamo square, Google maps says it's only 15 minutes
Nothing is happening around Alamo square these days either :) I guess it depends on what you are into. Portrero def has more couples/ young family vibe with a good selection on restaurants/ brunch spots
For me the big plus with Alamo sq is all the small parks.
Yeah I guess that's the main benefit with everything closed right now. Once things open up, it seems like one of the best places NW of market Street with not too long of a commute
Marina and Russian hill seem to fit your vibe.
I like those areas but they'd make my commute super long
Just a bunch of twentysomething account executives who can barely afford the rent living w 3 other girls in the house. Thats the marina and russian hill for ya
Rincon hill/east cut over all others
Why?
Try visiting it and you’ll know. Its probably the most expensive place to live in (im referring to the high rise condos/apts). But good transportation and will give you the peace of mind
Also checkout Portrero Hill area. Less ramp traffic than Alamo sq
Increasing homelessness and commercially a stale area.
Too hilly and no good. Ppl who live there are broke srsly
