Where to live to commute to Mountain View?

Will be working at G. Where to live? Looking for a 2br with a budget of 3500. Any specific name of communities? Places I should avoid? I've been checking Yelp and Google reviews and most places seem to be "average", whereas it's easier to find places with glowing reviews in the greater Seattle area.

Considering that US 101 traffic sucks, I would look at communities around Palo Alto, Mountain View or Sunnyvale. Made a mistake of moving to Downtown San Jose when I relocated to the Bay Area recently.

~45 minutes average, ~20 minutes without traffic.

unfortunately houses here are not only expensive, they are also very shitty (bad neighbors, old houses, bad management, etc). there are a few 4+ star apts complexes, but they charge a premium. definitely get a place near the HQ unless you want to stress every day about commute.

any specific communities you recommend?

I liked communities run by Prometheus. Avalon is okay, in terms of apartment and furnishings they could do better.

East San Jose isn't bad.

Take a look at Birch Creek. It's in a nice area and the apartments are big. Depending on the month you rent, you should be able to find a 2-br for between 3 and 3.5k (although my numbers might be outdated by now).

I started with that target price recently and ended up with 4400~ for something within 10 minutes driving distance (off peak), roughly 16-20 in peak and 11-14 min biking distance. If I was at main building, it could be 7min.
