Where to move from Seattle?

I spent 3 years in Seattle out of college working for Amazon, currently sde2 with 200k total comp. Don't want to bash Seattle, as any city it has its +/-.. but I simply got bored and looking to explore new places. Looking for any recommendations for fun places to spend next couple years where I can find similar level of compensation for my level of experience and skill level (just average L5) adjusted for living costs.

If you are looking for something different, qualtrics is in Utah and hiring. Much smaller city so you may get bored. Qualtrics is OK. I'm not an engineer, and I'm a bit disillusioned with the experience, but eng types seem to love it. If you want a referral let me know and I can get you one

Try Bay Area. You can even stay in Amazon then

What benefit is there in moving to Bay Area except for a bit better weather? COL is way higher, CA income tax, all suburban with even less to do than Seattle.

@stck that's what I keep hearing / worried about..

Best weather, laid back chill people, beach life, hot chicks, good food scene, while also being in close proximity to hiking, LA, Mexico or Phoenix to mix it up.

Great quality of life (no, it’s not dangerous at all, there’s a huge separation between the gang areas and the nice areas), growing tech opportunities, an amazing entertainment city, and the people are great there.

Apple campus in Austin. Dell if you can take the pay cut. Dell's in both places actually. COL is *nothing* in tuese states compared to Seattle

New York: there's Amazon so you can do internal transfer. Also Google and FB. Alternatively: Irvine (Amazon, Google) or Santa Monica (Google) if you're into nice weather. Amazon has an office in San Diego but not sure if it got expanded. It had Fresh and we know what happened to them.

Amazon wyeodnw OP Aug 25, 2018

Yea so far New York sounds like I really good option, not sure I can match my comp adjusted to cost considering how expensive Manhattan is but it might be worth it.. haven't considered Irvine or santa Monica before, I will do some research, thanks!

You can work in Manhattan without living in Manhattan. Unlike Seattle, NYC has pretty good public transit.

Tbh, it’s not the place in my opinion. As long as you find the friends you can tag along, the size & taste of city are add on. I used to be happy back in a really small town, then moved to dallas and super bored. Now in Bay area and find it depressing. Maybe just my problem.
