Which FAAANG provides one a higher reputation when it comes to finding new jobs.

How do employers view faang folks ? Are Amazon engineers viewed as folks who get shit done ? Or are they viewed as toxic folks? Are googlers viewed as lazy or smart ? Which company provides you an upper hand when looking for new jobs in the market. Vote and comment your rationales. Insights from recruiters appreciated. Edit. I am unable to edit the poll. Wanted to add Hulu, to vote for Hulu just comment.

What the actual fuck was that

Anyone not saying google is being disingenuous here

Amazon YBBA62 OP Oct 23, 2022

I am curious why ? I mean Sundar's statements about company's low productivity is everywhere. Wouldn't that count as bad reputation given that employers might view googlers as not very productive?

Square squareguyw Oct 23, 2022

Company reputation. Amazon has a lot of successful alumni but google has an aura around it.

Changes every downturn. Was IBM, nec, Sony in 1980s. In 90s, it’s GE, MSFT, Motorola, TI. Intel, Yahoo in 2000s. 2010s was petrochemical & fracking companies when oil was at its peak

Fracking companies? What?

Amazon is the worst. If someone is a manager here, he is likely a dick. If he worked there for less than half a year, you know he got pipped. If he is a long term amazonian, it means he is used to a pip and backstabbing culture.

Amazon ljwk2a Oct 23, 2022

I think all are treated very similarly. Meta and Amazon employees are generally stereotyped as employees who work long hours. Microsoft and Google employees are stereotyped as being slightly laid back. However, I think interview performance is ultimately what matters and we as interviewers should strive to remove any biases.

Generally google, but I would say the reputation depends on industry, to some extent. Google definitely has its rep, especially among regular people. Even grandma knows google = smart. But for people in the know, especially people who are veterans of some of the above, I think the aura sort of pops once you see how the hotdog is made.

Google > Meta > Amazon >= Good Morning America

Amazon never🙊 Oct 23, 2022

Google > Netflix> Meta> Apple > ... > Albertsons > McDonald's burger flipper > Amazon

Airwallex JpFc33 Oct 23, 2022

Finally an Amazonian that doesn't drink koolaid!

Meta gwopxrsnk Oct 23, 2022

Throw this reputation race shit out the window, don’t let google capitalise on this n stab u back in the TC cause u give a shit about reputation, In the end reputation doesn’t pay your mortgage, $ does, so get the money for the impact you create that’s what matters Stop thinking like the poor dad, remember Yahoo n my space had reputation too once

Airwallex JpFc33 Oct 23, 2022

So true, Google and meta will become the IBM of today

As someone who's from a no-tier company like DH who recently got out of band offer at a FAANG, I can back my claim that performance and negotiation is all that matters. The only company I didn't get an interview from was Apple, and that's probably because there was no role that fits well and I was also changing countries. The issue here is that some culture revolves around prestige and assumes most people reason like that. In the grand scheme of things there are stereotypes, but it's not something you should over index on. You will get same amount of interviews even same as everyone with a good resume. If you're trying to get money for VC, it hardly matters the difference between Google and Shopify. As long as you've worked somewhere people don't need to Google before they know about it. It's all same.

You had me until the end. VC is about who you know Ad who you can dazzle with your BS by massaging their own egos.

Delivery Hero iFCt60 Nov 9, 2022

Isn't that what I mean. It doesn't matter if you were at Google or Shopify or DeliveryHero. What matters in the end is your network. Or you think you have to work at Google to have solid network?
